Migrantour Utrecht has been busy! We’ve reached nearly 900 participants since starting in August 2022 – and we just held our 99th tour! We contribute to a broad array of community festivals and events, university courses, and excursions for civic and governmental organisations. The value of what Migrantour Utrecht offers people living in and outside the city has also been recognised by the Utrecht municipal government, which has granted funding to support our initiative for the coming year. The non-profit Stichting Collective Nouns’ De Voorkamer project continues to be an incredibly nurturing host for the Migrantour Utrecht initiative, and we are so grateful for all they do. All of this has enabled us to hold our second training in Autumn 2023 for ten wonderful people hailing from Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Italy, Nigeria, Russia and Syria seeking to become intercultural companions. We also bid a bittersweet farewell to tour co-founder Fiona in her position as local coordinator, and warmly welcomed Constanze into this incredibly important role. To deepen our intercultural companions’ familiarity with the diverse layers of migration in the Lombok neighbourhood, Utrecht and throughout the Netherlands, we have several excursions, guest speakers and workshops planned for this coming year. We’re also partnering up with like-minded initiatives around the country to learn from one another in a set of knowledge exchanges. So, we’re feeling pretty good these days!
