Mountain and rural areas, as well as small islands and borderlands, are oftentimes merely thought about as places people leave and overlooked as migration destinations in themselves. Yet migration is hardly an urban phenomenon. It plays an important role in shaping remote areas today and throughout the past.
Rural Migrantour: Paths of Recovery is a two-year project funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme. Building on the foundations of the Migrantour initiative established in 20+ cities throughout Europe, since 2021 we have developing tours in remote, rural and border areas in 4 European countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Slovenia) that promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage awareness and appreciation.
