The project launched in May last year to select and train intercultural companions is drawing to a close. The aim is to integrate Verona into the Migrantour Network.
The project, supported by Otto per Mille funds from the Waldensian Church, will conclude with a free walk for schools and citizens. The itinerary, titled ‘There is a world within these walls’ (a citation from the tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare), will take place in the Veronetta district.
Veronetta was chosen for its close connection with the history of migrations that have characterised the city. Since the late 1980s, it has become an attractive pole for international immigration. Although today the districts with the highest percentage of foreign population are Golosine (27%), Santa Lucia (24%) and Borgo Roma (21%) (in the southern part of the city), Veronetta remains in the collective imagination as the multicultural district par excellence, thanks to its recent history and the presence of international shops and restaurants.
The first walks were organised for students from ENAIP and a secondary school. Another was held with European teachers visiting Verona for an Erasmus project. The last one, open to all citizens, was organised on 22 March, on the occasion of the Week Against Racism 2025. (photo attached). Further walks are planned to gather feedback and refine the itinerary.
Another important activity, held on 7 and 8 March, was the monitoring of the walk by Viaggi Solidali with the final eight participants of the project.
