World Anthropology Day is an initiative of the American Anthropological Association to celebrate and raise awareness about anthropology. Since 2019, AnthroDay has been celebrated in Milan and since 2022 also in Turin to make visible the public role of anthropology.
The anthropologists who work or collaborate with the University of Milan Bicocca and the University of Turin organise these events starting from the idea that anthropology can contribute to improving people’s lives. It can also help us understand the world we live in and promote the resolution of everyday problems and global challenges. This year’s topic was “Divers3- Unequal. What unites us and what divides us”.
At the Demetrio Stratos Auditorium of Radio Popolare, in Milan, Carla Oller and Roxana Ivan, intercultural companions of Migrantour Milan, have participated in the episode hosted on 02/15/2024 by Disma Pestalozza “Live Pop – Milan and suburbs, between social inequalities and cultural diversity”. At minute 35:00, we can hear Roxana and Carla describing their working experience in Migrantour. They highlight the important contribution it makes to raising awareness about Milan-related issues: migration and cultural diversity. Carla reveals some stories from the itineraries, while Roxana intrigues the audience by mentioning the chuño, a tuber from the Andes that is very popular among indigenous communities.
Carla and Roxana’s interview provided many insights about exploring the cultures that interconnect within Milan’s social fabric and liven it up. Walking slowly and differently, despite the cold of winter, proves to be one of the best ways to discover the city, once again. As well as talking to people and using our five senses to identify places that may go unnoticed in a city like Milan. You can listen to this interesting interview at the following link:

On the other hand, the first edition of “Migrantour Porta Palazzo Art Edition: The World in a Canvas” was proposed on 02/17/24 in Turin. It was the first time experimenting with an artistic language thanks to the support of the art/curatorial collective TDF.collective, Nuova Maniera association and LuceroArtStudio. The itinerary was conducted by the intercultural companion Giovanna Rombaldi, in collaboration with Francesco Vietti, an anthropologist at the University of Turin and the scientific coordinator of the Migrantour Network. It also welcomed the participation of the artist Pabliu Lucero. The three of them encouraged the participants to reflect on the importance of intercultural dialogue and universal citizenship and to create, stop after stop, a collective artistic work.
