Migrantour Ljubljana: new project.

Migrantour Ljubljana: new project.

Ljubljana is currently implementing a training of a new generation of Migrantour guides, this time joined by artisan handcrafters who are also developing artisan products under the umbrella of Migrantour. The project is funded by the Active Citizens Fund – Norway Mechanism. In the first phase of the project, we are training a new generation of intercultural guides and animators (with the ‘first generation’ guides acting as mentors and tutors). We are building on the existing offer with a programme of ‘Intercultural Experiences’ and a new intercultural itinerary, taking into account current migration flows. Following Scandinavian practices and in cooperation with our partners Oloop and the OsloMet Department of Art, Design and Theatre, we are incorporating the elements of handicrafts and design into the ‘Intercultural Experiences’. In December, we organised an intensive storytelling workshop led by Lina Teir, the director of Oslo Storytelling Festival. We are highlighting the role of immigrants as the main providers of intercultural experiences and interpreters of the diverse cultural heritages that make up our local environments and have great potential in the field of responsible, carbon-free tourism. In the following months, the trainees will have the opportunity to take an active role as intercultural guides. During the training, we will further develop digital materials (podcast, video) based on field research, which will be integrated into an upgraded online story map, thus developing the digital competences of the participants and ensuring a permanent, accessible online archive of the itineraries. In the second phase of the project, we will carry out 10 Intercultural Experiences for a selected target group of public sector professionals (with the aim of raising awareness of (inter)cultural contexts) and 5 Welcome Experiences for asylum seekers – newcomers. An important part of the project will be the implementation of marketing and communication strategies, led by the Škrateljc Institute. This will ensure the sustainability and longevity of the project.
