Migrantour Turin. World Refugee Day with Scienza Migrante

Migrantour Turin. World Refugee Day with Scienza Migrante

On 21st June, Migrantour Turin organised a walk to remember World Refugee Day in collaboration with Scienza Migrante, a project by the University of Turin that shares stories of migration and science to promote the scientific and cultural heritage of migrants in the territory.

It is estimated that over 120 million people worldwide are fleeing armed conflict, persecution or the effects of climate change. This number is set to increase due to new humanitarian crises and the worsening of existing ones. Sudan, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Venezuela are just some of the countries from which people are forced to flee.

We started from the courtyard of the Rectorate of the University of Turin, the headquarters of the university’s political and administrative institutions and historical archives, to talk about UNITO’s projects concerning the reception of international students. We then walked to the Porta Palazzo market, the first itinerary of the Migrantour project, guided by Giovanna, intercultural guide for Migrantour Turin and art curator, for a special walk that stimulated reflection and mutual sharing through contemporary art.

The walk ended with an aperitif at Jigeenyi (“Women” in Wolof), a project by Renken, which promotes African cuisine and women’s empowerment to stimulate intercultural dialogue through the languages of food and the arts.

Step by step, we continue to weave relationships and create connections.
