Over the years, the Migrantour project has attracted the interest of scholarly research. Articles and essays have been published exploring various thematic, methodological, ethical and political aspects of the project. Dissertations in various academic fields (anthropology, pedagogy, political science, sociology) dedicated to Migrantour have also been discussed.
We are now happy to announce the publication of a new essay discussing the educational value of our initiative. The title of the text is ‘WALKING TOGETHER. INTERCULTURAL URBAN ROUTES AS A PRACTICE TO EDUCATE FORENCOUNTER AND GROW AS A COMMUNITY’, published in the academic journal MeTis. The authors are the pedagogist Isabella Pescarmona (University of Turin) and Francesco Vietti, anthropologist, who has been the scientific coordinator of the Migrantour project for a long time. The article can be freely read at this link. Here is the abstract summarising its contents:
“Urban spaces characterized by immigration are frequently rep-resented as places of violence and xenophobia, feeding a stereo-typical narrative of the relationship with people with different backgrounds. Nevertheless, cities are places of daily life encounters that can deconstruct certain prejudices and fears about otherness. In the framework of the Educational Cities movement approach, this contribution argues how urban environment can become a place of widespread education capable of mappingsocial relations through different perspectives and overcoming the host-guest dichot-omy, enriching the community with a variety of voices. Through an interdisciplinary reading of the Migrantourproject, the article dis-cusses the potential of tracing alternative itinerariesfor intercultural dialogue in the streets of our cities to re-writethe history of those places withthe others and to engage local stakeholders in a peda-gogical and political project of mutual growth.”
Enjoy reading… and have a good summer!
