It seems as if we have just left, yet the journey has been so long! Back in 2009/2010, Viaggi Solidali launched an original and innovative initiative in Turin: the first training course for intercultural guides. The idea was simple: to promote responsible tourism “at home”, enhancing the long history of migrations that had changed and enriched the city over time. From that moment on, we have not stopped! Thanks to the collaboration with the NGOs ACRA and Oxfam Italia, Migrantour became a national and then an international project within a few years. Thus, in 2014/2015, the European network Migrantour – Intercultural Urban Routes was consolidated. Today the Migrantour network includes 18 places in different European countries: from Rome to Barcelona, from Naples to Lisbon, passing through Parma, Bergamo, Utrecht, Ljubljana, Bologna, Cagliari, Copenhagen, Catania, Brussels, Genoa, Milan, Florence… and finally Camini, a small village in Calabria. In these 15 years we have created dozens of itineraries, trained hundreds of intercultural guides, realised thousands of walks in which tens of thousands of students, tourists, citizens of all ages have participated. We have received awards and aroused the interest of the media and universities. All these resultas were only possible thanks to great teamwork, to the collective effort of many people animated by the ethical and political commitment to create together spaces and opportunities for meeting, knowledge and intercultural dialogue.
The 15th Anniversary of Migrantour: This is the right time to say THANK YOU to those who have been part of this adventure and to celebrate together with those who have followed and supported us! From 14 to 16 February, Turin hosted a special edition of the Migrantour network meeting. Three days of activities with all the project partners not only to celebrate what has been done so far, but above all to imagine and trace the road we will take… in the next 15 years!
